Tattoo Aftercare

Congrats on your new tattoo! Please read the following steps on how to take care of your tattoo:

      1. After the artist has placed the bandage on you, it is recommended to leave it on for 3-5 days. This bandage is waterproof so you may shower with it on. DO NOT soak it in water.

      2.  When you take off your bandage, it is recommended to do so in the shower or under warm water. Slowly peel the bandage off. Using UNSCENTED soap and warm water, gently wash off any excess ink, plasma, and residue with your hand.

     3. Gently pat dry the area with a piece of paper towel. DO NOT  rub and/or exfoliate your fresh tattoo.

     4. When your tattoo starts crabbing, apply a thin layer of UNSCENTED moisturizer to the area. Some recommended brands you can use include: Aveeno, Lubriderm, and Tattoo Goo. DO NOT use Vaseline or Petroleum.

     5. Continue cleaning and moisturizing your tattoo for 2 weeks or until the tattoo has fully healed and stopped scrubbing.

     6. Wear loose and soft clothing that doesn’t constrict the area of the tattoo.

 Things to Avoid:

  • Picking, peeling, or scratching at your fresh tattoo
  • Exposing your tattoo to direct sunlight for at least 3 weeks
  • Swimming with the tattoo for at least 3 weeks
  • Wearing any abrasive materials, jewelry, and/or shoes that may rub against your tattoo.

A tattoo may become infected if it is not taken care of. Please seek medical help immediately or call Telehealth Ontario at : 1-866-797-0000 if you experience any of these symptoms.
